The Black Business Alliance of Peoria's Annual 'Celebrating Achievement' Gala is set for
Friday November 4th, at The Gateway Building in downtown Peoria.
Comprised of more than 30 members, the BBA Peoria Chapter, is the owner of WPNV 106.3 FM Radio and the facilitator of monthly business meetings and workshops designed to spark business growth. Executive Director Denise Moore is the driving force behind the Minority Business Development Center, which is under construction in South Peoria. BBA members include business owners, entrepreneurs, angel investors, business professionals, and concerned citizens. The annual gala is the organization's major yearly fundraiser.
"We're at a stage where we can actually begin to take dramatic steps toward economic progress in the city", said BBA President Denise Moore. " We're putting major development projects on the landscape, we're changing the business narrative from negative to positive, and we're proving that we have what it takes to change things for the better."
This year's Gala honors five people, including (keynote speaker) Eureka College President,
Dr. Jamel Wright, Dawn and Dave Bozeman, and Janet and George Davis.

Our keynote speaker:
Dr. Jamel Wright...the first African-American and First Female President of Eureka College (the alma mater of former President Ronald Reagan). Dr. Wright is a visible, prominent and highly-respected professional and community member, locally and nationally. She is a skilled communicator, author and scholar whose training and expertise earned her an appointment to the Ferguson Commission’s Citizen Law Enforcement Working Group on community policing, racial profiling, use of force, and mass demonstrations.
Dawn Bozeman...Dunlap School Board member and American Red Cross Tiffany Lady
Dave Bozeman...Caterpillar Vice President and Philanthropist
Janet and George Davis...Longtime business owners of Janet's Just For You and Style Show
"These individuals are visionaries, who have made tremendous contributions to our community and deserve to be recognized", says Moore.
The BBA Annual Gala is a fundraiser for the soon to be completed Minority Business Development, located at 2139 SW Adams. When completed, the MBDC will provide business education and technical assistance, administrative support for small businesses and contractors and also provide business office incubator space for entrepreneurs. The MBDC houses WPNV 106.3FM radio station, administrative offices, and is owned and operated by the BBA.
"This is an exciting time, full of opportunities", says Moore. "We finally have the components in place to begin a business renaissance throughout the region. The MBDC is the only organization in Peoria, providing the coordinated level of assistance specifically focused on the unique needs of ethnic minorities, women and veterans. "
"Celebrating achievement within the African-American community has become more important each day. Showing our support for those in the community that seek to lift us all up, rather than drag the community down signals to our youth that all is not as lost as what they see on television today. It is important to come out and demonstrate your support", says Moore.
At the Gala, attendees will be treated to a video presentation, tracking the progress of the Minority Business Development Center, to include a pictorial representation of African-American businesses in the Peoria area. The Celebrating Achievement Gala will be hosted by Denise and Garry Moore, and besides acknowledging the honorees, it will feature great food by Mama G's, decorations by Michelle Sanders, and musical entertainment by Marwin Spiller.
